Assessing the Impact of the Urban Landscape on Extreme Rainfall Characteristics Triggering Flood Hazards

This study configures the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model with updated urban fraction for optimal rainfall simulation over Kampala, Uganda. The parameter values associated fractions are adjusted based on literature reviews. An extreme event that triggered a flood hazard in Kampala 25 June 2012 is used simulation. Observed from two gauging stations satellite Climate Hazards Group InfraRed Precipitation Station data (CHIRPS) validation. We compared using default focusing amount spatial-temporal distribution. Results indicate simulated overestimated to CHIRPS underestimated when comparing gridcell station records.
